SEYMOUR –Today, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced the second local manufacturing company to be recognized in his new weekly series, “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer”, in which a distinct Connecticut manufacturer is recognized for its outstanding contributions to the state. This week, Murphy is recognizing Xamax Industries, Inc. for its hard work and contributions to Connecticut’s manufacturing industry. Founded in 1949, the company has operated out of Connecticut for the last 39 years. From 1975 to 1985, Xamax Industries, Inc. operated out of Stratford; the company relocated to Seymour in 1985, where it has been ever since. The manufacturer employs 36 hard-working Connecticut residents, and even in the midst of the nation’s recession, Xamax did not lay off a single employee. In the last several years, Xamax Industries, Inc. has seen a growth in business of about 15 percent.

Xamax Industries, Inc. is a global supplier of engineered products for the commercial and consumer markets. They are one of many Connecticut companies that takes advantage of the Export-Import (Ex-Im) Bank, an independent federal agency that creates and maintains U.S. jobs by filling gaps in private export financing at no cost to American taxpayers. Murphy supported the reauthorization of the Ex-Im Bank, and visited the manufacturer last summer in an effort to highlight the importance of the Bank to Connecticut manufacturers. Xamax Industries, Inc. specializes in natural and synthetic fibers, large varieties of kraft and tissue papers, thermoplastic films, natural and synthetic nonwoven fabrics, and laminations and coatings. Many of the materials manufactured at the Seymour facility are sold to consumers around the world, and can be found in products like electrical wiring, ladders, and windows sold at The Home Depot, or cotton products sold at Walgreens and Walmart stores.

“I’m proud to recognize Xamax this week as Murphy's Monday Manufacturer,”
said Murphy. “During my recent visit to Seymour, I was able to see the great work that goes into making Xamax products and hear more about where those materials wind up – in the hands of countless customers at stores and retailers across the country. Connecticut is lucky to be the home of such a vibrant organization whose local efforts can be seen worldwide.”

“We are grateful for Senator Murphy’s efforts in support of Connecticut manufacturers. Xamax Industries works hard to grow while maintaining profitability and excellent customer service,”
said Xamax Industries Inc.’s CEO, Martin Weinberg. “We focus on developing new products and services, via innovation, and competitive differentiation often supported by IP.  We are appreciative of Senator Murphy's efforts to create and support programs that allow manufacturers to stay in Connecticut as well as recruit new companies.”

The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating our state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,602 manufacturers account for 10.2% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the 21st Century Buy American Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
