NORTH HAVEN – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced that Precision Combustion, Inc. (PCI), a clean energy technology company, is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” PCI was established in 1986 in a 660 square foot space in New Haven’s Science Park. Today, after years of continued growth, the company operates out of a 38,000 square foot, newly-renovated laboratory and manufacturing center in North Haven, where they develop and manufacture catalytic reactor and combustor products for clean and efficient burners, regenerable air cleaning systems, fuel processors for fuel cells and engines, and steam generators for oil production, gas production, and agricultural soil disinfection. PCI’s customers include aerospace and defense companies, the U.S. government, oil and gas companies, and manufacturers of fuel cell systems from around the world.

Earlier today, PCI was honored during a ceremony at the White House with the 2015 Tibbetts Award, which honors small businesses for excellence in Small Business Innovation Research for the federal government. PCI was one of just 23 small businesses selected among thousands of eligible firms from across the country to receive this award.

PCI takes pride in their community, and employs thirty-five hardworking Connecticut residents who range in age from seasoned veterans to recently-graduated technicians and engineers. PCI also works with a number of universities to train aspiring technicians, and for many years, has spearheaded energy and environmental projects in local New Haven elementary and middle schools to highlight the importance of getting involved in STEM-related fields early.

“Connecticut has always been on the cutting edge of innovation, technology, and manufacturing, and the work being done by PCI is no exception. PCI has developed technologies to reduce energy costs and emissions, improve the flexibility and mobility of our military, enhance the quality of the air we breathe, and ensure that the fruits and vegetables we eat are free of harmful chemicals and toxins,” said Murphy. “They’re improving concepts and models across the board and are setting new standards for research and innovation. Congratulations to the entire PCI team on their selection as a winner of the Tibbetts Award.”

“This is a real high performance team,” said PCI President Kevin Burns. “Our people are serial innovators and excellent engineers, with great teamwork both inside and with outside collaborators. We’re grateful to the SBIR program to give us the chance to tackle some high risk opportunities and innovate, and we’re working to leverage those innovations into better products for our industrial customers and the U.S. government.”
