CHESHIRE – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced that Marion Manufacturing Company, a Cheshire-based manufacturer of stamped metal components for the medical, automotive, aerospace, commercial, and telecommunications industries, is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” Marion Manufacturing was founded in 1946 as a progressive die stamper, and today, after nearly seven decades in the business, the company has refined their metal forming processes to produce items for surgical devices, hardware and electrical components, automotive parts, aerospace devices, as well as wind and solar energy instruments.
Marion Manufacturing’s team of 24 hardworking employees assemble, inspect, and ship thousands of products to customers around the world, including John Deere and Connecticut’s own United Technologies, each year. But even though the company’s services are used around the world, Marion Manufacturing has maintained a commitment to American manufacturing. They understand the importance of supporting other local jobs and businesses, and even design all of their own tooling and equipment in-house. They take pride in supporting the local community and actively support manufacturing programs at several high schools in the Cheshire area, as well as the Advanced Manufacturing program at Naugatuck Valley Community College. Marion Manufacturing is currently helping two young Tool and Die apprentices develop the skills and training they need to achieve their certification.
“When I visited Marion Manufacturing last week, I saw a company that shares its success with those who make that success possible – their workers, the schools that educate their future employees, and the Connecticut manufacturing industry. Doug has done a great job creating a forward-looking culture within his company that is all too rare these days,” said Murphy. “When companies give back to their communities by teaching residents valuable real-world skills, it prepares workers for the job market and boosts our state’s manufacturing sector. I applaud Marion Manufacturing for their contributions and hope other businesses follow their lead.”
Douglas Johnson, President of Marion Manufacturing Company, said: “Marion Manufacturing has always strived to uphold our commitment to our employees, our community and our rich manufacturing history here in Cheshire, Connecticut. Everyone in our company takes pride in our craftsmanship and our drive to keep manufacturing alive and prospering. The support of Senator Murphy in Washington is important to our continued growth and prosperity and we are honored to be recognized by him.”
The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating our state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,602 manufacturers account for 10.2% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the 21st Century Buy American Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
