SHELTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced today that Lex Products Corporation, a manufacturer of portable and permanent power distribution and control systems, is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” Lex Products was founded in West Haven in 1989 and has operated out of Connecticut ever since. Today, Lex Products operates two facilities in Shelton where they manufacture durable and portable work lighting, cable ramps, and other products for the entertainment and industrial sectors, and the U.S. military. Their products are used in many different settings, including outdoor concerts and film sets, in natural disaster recovery efforts, and on military forward operating bases and field hospitals.
With the help of their 130 skilled and hard-working Connecticut employees, Lex Products has gained national recognition for their innovative and advanced technologies. The Shelton-based company was named the U.S. Marine Corps’ Official Manufacturer for its Mobile Electric Power Distribution System, and has grown rapidly because of it. In fact, in 2012, Lex Products was ranked by Inc. magazine as the 77th fastest growing manufacturer in the United States. Lex Products also operates facilities in California and in the United Kingdom.
“The high-quality, innovative products made by the team at Lex Products make our men and women in uniform safer and more productive,” said Murphy. “I'm proud of the workers at Lex Products – it’s their commitment to quality that keeps their customers coming back over and over. I’ll do everything I can back in Washington to ensure that these local efforts continue to be recognized worldwide.”
Bob Luther, Founder and CEO of Lex Products, said, “Connecticut is home to a motivated, talented workforce, unmatched technical resources and access to vibrant markets. Lex Products is proud to part of the rich manufacturing tradition of CT’s Housatonic River Valley.”
The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating our state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,602 manufacturers account for 10.2% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the 21st Century Buy American Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
