CROMWELL – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced that Floyd Manufacturing is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” In 1988, Edward Floyd founded the manufacturing business out of a small shop in Connecticut in order to provide new manufacturing services to consumers. Today, Floyd Manufacturing delivers quality and cost-effective precision Computer Numerical Control machining services of metal components to the automotive, defense, and aerospace industries.
For more than 27 years, Floyd Manufacturing has produced machined components to suspension, brake, and steering systems for many high-profile companies and brands, including General Motors, Toyota, Subaru, Tesla, Mercedes, Audi, Ferrari, and Lamborghini. Their products and services have become so popular, in fact, that in the last two years, their sales revenue has doubled. As a result, the company – which started as a team of eight people – now requires the skill and attention of 37 full-time workers, and operates out of a large facility in Cromwell (that they share with their sister company, Carey Manufacturing).
Floyd Manufacturing is a proud recruiter and employer of graduates of Hartford’s Job Corps program, which provides low-income young people with the education and training they need to earn a degree, maintain a job, and succeed in life. The company is certified by the Greater New England Minority Supplier Development Council as a Minority Business Enterprise, and is highly engaged in recruiting and advising men and women looking to join Connecticut’s job market through programs like CTWorks, The Center for Advanced Technology, Gateway Community College, Asnuntuck Community College, and Goodwin College.
“I’d like to thank Floyd Manufacturing for its commitment to helping Connecticut’s hardworking residents find meaningful employment,” said Murphy. “Their efforts not only help to fill areas of need, but they drive production and economic growth, creating even more jobs and opportunities for more people. For 27 years, Floyd Manufacturing has been laying the foundation for a stronger workforce and a stronger state-wide manufacturing industry, and that’s good news for everyone.”
Alfonso Floyd, President of Floyd Manufacturing, said: "Floyd Manufacturing has always been a strong believer in Connecticut’s rich history of manufacturing know how. Connecticut has historically, and continues to, produce some of the best machinists, entrepreneurs and manufactured parts in the world. I am pleased that Senator Chris Murphy recognizes this prized resource and is seeing to it that Connecticut continues to be a top tier, leading edge manufacturer to world markets.”
The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating our state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,602 manufacturers account for 10.2% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the 21st Century Buy American Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
