HARTFORD–U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced that CoRISMA MCS Systems Inc., based in Hamden, was named February’s “Innovator of the Month.” Founded in 2018 and spun out of Yale University, CoRISMA is a medical device company developing a fully implanted transcatheter device to increase blood flow for patients experiencing advanced heart failure. Nearly 6.5 million Americans over the age of 20 have heart failure, and it accounts for the most hospitalizations in our Medicare population. The CoRISMA device is designed to be less invasive and less expensive, allowing more patients to receive treatment. February is American Heart Month.

“Treatment for heart failure is typically expensive and invasive, but CoRISMA’s technology has the potential to dramatically improve care for people suffering from heart failure. I’m proud to recognize their innovative approach, and look forward to their continued growth and success in Connecticut,” said Murphy.

“Our talented team is working hard to innovate new medical devices to help the countless people suffering from Heart Failure, a disease that is progressive and debilitating.  We’re honored to be recognized by Senator Murphy as Innovator of the Month,” said Mike Theran, CEO and CoFounder of CoRISMA MCS Systems Inc.

Murphy believes entrepreneurship and innovation are the building blocks for a strong economy. In the U.S. Senate, he has introduced legislation to incentivize angel investors to put more money into startup companies—the Angel Tax Credit Act. Startup companies create an average of 2 million jobs each year.
