HARTFORD – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced on Monday that Magnatech of East Granby is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” Magnatech manufactures portable pipe and tube welding tools for on-site welding. The company employs 46 employees at their 24,000 square foot facility located in Bradley Field Industrial Park.
Founded in 1946, Magnatech originally served the aerospace industry. Since then, the company expanded to a wide range of customers, including nuclear power generation companies, food processors, pharmaceutical companies, chemical and refining industries, and the U.S. Navy submarine program. The on-site welding conducted using Magnatech’s tools and systems occurs in a wide range of environments—from desert heat to arctic cold. Additionally, Magnatech’s customers often seek financing from the federal Export-Import (Ex-Im) Bank, which Murphy has fought hard in Congress to protect in order to expand exports of locally-made products overseas.
“When workers need welding tools they can depend on, in scorching heat or freezing cold, they turn to Magnatech,” said Murphy. “Magnatech sells its tools throughout the world with the help of the Export-Import Bank, which I was proud to fight for in Congress. I’ll keep working hard for the priorities of Connecticut manufacturing to grow jobs at quality manufacturers like Magnatech.”
“Over 50% of our sales are exports, and the Ex-Im Bank Foreign Receivables Insurance Program allows us to offer our foreign customers payment terms – which is a great assistance to sales. I want to thank Senator Murphy for his work in reauthorizing the Ex-Im bank. And yes, we manufacture 100% of our products here in Connecticut,” said John Emerson, President of Magnatech.
The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating our state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,600 manufacturers account for 10% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the 21st Century Buy American Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
