WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced on Monday that Carey Manufacturing, Inc. in Cromwell is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” Carey Manufacturing specializes in the manufacturing of latches, catches, and handles for military, aerospace, computer, electronics, telecom, automotive, and consumer applications. They make products for companies like General Dynamics, McMaster-Carr, Bisco Industries, and DB Roberts. Carey Manufacturing was founded in 1981 and works out of a 30,000 square foot facility that employs over 35 people.
“Connecticut is home to the best manufacturers in the world and that’s because of companies like Carey Manufacturing. I want to applaud them for their decades of manufacturing in Connecticut, and their commitment to helping our next generation of manufacturers in our state through their work with schools and nonprofits,” said Murphy.
“Carey Manufacturing is committed to our reshoring efforts, moving our manufacturing from China to Cromwell,” said Paul S. Lavoie, General Manager of Carey Manufacturing, Inc. “We’ve created 9 new jobs, invested over $5 million in capital equipment and added significantly to the local supply chain for material and finishing services since 2017 and we are optimistic about our plans for growth in 2019 and beyond.”
Carey Manufacturing is active in Connecticut’s manufacturing community, helping to create a pipeline for the next generation of manufacturers in the state. Carey Manufacturing is a member of the Advance Manufacturing Employment Partnership and is a Tunxis Community College Advance Manufacturing Advisory Council board member. The company routinely work with Hartford Job Corps, Connecticut Center for Advance Technology, Capital Workforce Partner, and regularly host tours of students from technical high schools and community colleges at their facility.
Paul Lavoie, General Manager of Carey Manufacturing, is Vice Chair of the Central Connecticut Chambers of Commerce and Chair of the Regional Legislative Action Committee.
The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating the state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,600 manufacturers account for 10% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the BuyAmerican.gov Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
