WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced electronic manufacturing services provider Argo EMS, in Clinton, is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” Founded as Argo Transdata Corporation in 1969 in the basement of Joe Warhurst, Argo has grown from a surface mount technology/hybrid component manufacturer to the modern electronics contract manufacturer it is today.

Argo EMS builds electronics assemblies that power and control industrial, aerospace, and consumer products, including hardware that goes into the semiconductor equipment that builds the chips in phones, PCs, tablets, and automobiles. General Manager Dane Wentworth says Argo’s mission is to “give New England companies a resource to have their electronic products ‘made in America’” and their motto is, “If you design it, we will build it.” Some of Argo’s custom products include commercial laundry payment systems, medical laser therapy gear, rail car braking systems, new ophthalmic test devices and electronic controls for induction cooking products.

“I’m happy to highlight Argo because of their nearly 50 years of manufacturing in Connecticut. Argo continues to grow and diversify their products to meet the needs of their customers,” said Murphy.

“I am especially proud of Team Argo for hanging in through the dreary days of large companies outsourcing manufacturing overseas. Our automation initiatives have given us the ability to compete and win against low-labor-cost regions. The reshoring trend is real; we are enjoying bringing mid-volume Printed Circuit Board (PCB) assembly work back to America,” said Dane Wentworth, General Manager of Argo EMS.

The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating our state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,600 manufacturers account for 10% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the BuyAmerican.gov Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
