HARTFORD – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced on Monday that McGuire Manufacturing of Cheshire is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” Hugh McGuire founded McGuire Manufacturing out of his Cheshire, Connecticut garage in 1957. Over the years, the company expanded and by 1977, they employed 11 workers out of a 5,000 square foot facility. In 1994, McGuire Manufacturing moved to their current facility in Cheshire – the move more than doubled the company’s factory and office space. Today, McGuire Manufacturing develops and distributes commercial plumbing supplies – such as P-traps, grid drains, strainers, and supply kits – for installations at hospitals, schools, stadiums, casinos, hotels, and airports. McGuire Manufacturing also delivers high-end marine traps to the U.S. Navy.
With the help of 18 employees, McGuire Manufacturing produces over 2,000 products. Their products have been installed on projects such as 1 Freedom Tower in New York City, Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City, Heinz Field Stadium in Pittsburgh, Wynn Las Vegas & Encore Resort in Las Vegas, JW Marriott in San Antonio, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta, New Doah International Airport in Qatar, and at many other renowned locations.
“Whether it’s at a hotel, airport, or stadium, thousands of people around the world use McGuire Manufacturing’s products every single day,” said Murphy. “I’m glad McGuire Manufacturing has operated out of Connecticut and employed Connecticut residents for 60 years.”
Bob Williams, President of McGuire Manufacturing, said, “McGuire has been very fortunate to have dedicated, long-standing employees over the past 60 years. They are the core to our organization’s success in Connecticut.”
The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating our state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,600 manufacturers account for 10% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the 21st Century Buy American Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
