BLOOMFIELD – Today, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced that Turbine Controls, Inc. (TCI), a maintenance, repair, and operations manufacturer located in Bloomfield, is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” Founded in 1980, TCI specializes in the overhaul and repair of jet engine and gas turbine engine components and accessories for commercial, military, industrial, and airframe systems. TCI uses a range of capabilities including machining, grinding, welding, shot peening, and blasting to service seals, pumps, valves, starters, actuators, and other jet engine products. The company serves an expansive list of customers, including Pratt & Whitney, and other clients located in Europe, the Middle East, and the Pacific Rim. TCI operates out of two buildings in Bloomfield, Connecticut – each of which spans 35,000 square feet – and employs 92 full-time Connecticut workers. They also occupy a 20,000 square foot facility in Miramar, Florida where they employ more than 45 workers.
TCI is a proud sponsor of Windsor, Connecticut’s high school robotics team and of the Connecticut Science Center. They are also a major supporter of the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center (CCMC). Each year, TCI employees host a charity golf outing and holiday toy-drive to benefit CCMC’s cancer program and its patients. TCI owner and President, Glen Greenberg, sits on the Board of CCMC, and chaired a $5 million capital campaign to create a new, state-of-the-art facility to care for kids with cancer and blood disorders.
TCI’s sales in Connecticut currently exceed $27 million, and they plan to see a 10 percent growth in 2016. TCI also has plans to expand their business to customers in South America and the Caribbean.
“Glen and the rest of the leadership team at TCI have done a remarkable job building up the business and focusing on the continued expansion of their workforce. Now, they’re currently looking to bring on new machinists, inspectors, and technicians,” said Murphy. “The TCI team understands how important it is to help workers develop their skills and continuously improve, and it’s because of this dedication that TCI was named a ‘gold’ supplier by UTC and won a ‘Best of Bloomfield Aerospace’ award. TCI has done a lot for our state and I’ll do everything I can to make sure they receive all the federal and state support they need.”
Glen Greenberg, TCI owner and President, said, “Connecticut has been TCI's home for 36 years. Connecticut offers a great working environment, connections to locating skilled staff and access to decision makers in government that cannot be found in most states. TCI is very fortunate to have its roots here in Connecticut and we look forward to continuing to build the company here.”
The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating our state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,602 manufacturers account for 10.2% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the 21st Century Buy American Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
