HARTFORD – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced on Monday that R&D Dynamics Corporation of Bloomfield is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” Founded in 1990, R&D designs and manufactures oil-free, energy-efficient, and high-speed turbomachinery for the aerospace and commercial sectors. Their products include foil air/gas bearings, motor driven blowers and compressors, turboexpanders, turboalternators, and turbocompressors. The products are used in air-cycle machines, air separation plants, electricity conversion systems, and other applications. The Bloomfield manufacturer employs 66 employees out of an 83,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility.
R&D serves a long list of customers including major world airlines, General Electric, BMW, Rolls Royce, FuelCell Energy, and the U.S. military. The manufacturer recently developed an Advanced Zero Emissions Renewable Energy Conversion technology called ThermoGen. ThermoGen emits zero pollutants and converts industrial waste heat into environmentally friendly electric power.
“R&D has designed and invented energy-efficient machinery for nearly three decades, and they’re still going strong,” said Murphy. “Their latest technology will simultaneously help grow Connecticut’s green economy and reduce carbon emissions.”
Dr. Giri Agrawal, President of R&D Dynamics, said, “R&D Dynamics is proud to develop and manufacture products in Connecticut. This area has a wealth of engineering and manufacturing talent for us to draw upon. With the support of our dedicated employees, we have grown from 5 people to 66 people. Commercialization of ThermoGen will allow us to continue to grow, which will be good for R&D and good for Connecticut.”
The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating our state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,600 manufacturers account for 10% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the 21st Century Buy American Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
