HARTFORD–U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced that Urban Mining CT, based in Beacon Falls, was named “Innovator of the Month.” Urban Mining CT’s Pozzotive® is a ground glass pozzolan and industrial filler made from 100% recycled post-consumer glass. It is a safer, more sustainable, and higher-performing material that dramatically reduces embodied CO2 emissions in concrete on a nearly ton-for-ton basis.
“Tackling the climate crisis requires creative solutions. The team at Urban Mining CT has developed a new product that takes glass – a material that can be difficult and expensive to recycle – and turns it into a safer, more effective, and more sustainable carbon cement replacement. I look forward to seeing their continued success in our state,” said Murphy.
“Connecticut has a talented workforce and a long history of innovation. Our ground glass pozzolan plant in Beacon Falls is truly a first of its kind facility. Our ability to produce a product from local glass that can then be used as a low carbon cement replacement in Connecticut’s homes, schools and infrastructure is a landmark achievement for green, low embodied carbon construction. We are proud to be part of the Connecticut economy,” said T.J. Oneglia, Urban Mining CT.
Murphy believes entrepreneurship and innovation are the building blocks for a strong economy. In the U.S. Senate, he has introduced legislation to incentivize angel investors to put more money into startup companies—the Angel Tax Credit Act. Startup companies create an average of 2 million jobs each year.
