WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) celebrated one year of his weekly “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer” series, through which he has recognized 48 Connecticut manufacturers for their outstanding contributions to the state. As part of a continued effort to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has supported several initiatives to train the state’s advanced manufacturing workforce, reform laws to increase manufacturers’ exports, and fight against unfair trade agreements. Murphy has introduced two manufacturing and Buy American bills – the 21st Century Buy American Act and the American Jobs Matter Act – and passed an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that will strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-manufactured goods.

“Connecticut’s manufacturers continue to reach new heights. They’re the best in the nation and they’re driving economic growth up and down the supply chain,” said Murphy. “I’m incredibly proud of everything they do, and I want all of Connecticut to know how lucky we are to have such a robust manufacturing base. Since I started this, I’ve highlighted 48 manufacturers around the state – from producers of tortilla chips and organ pipes, to manufacturers of jet engine components and defense surveillance systems. I hope that my ‘Monday Manufacturer’ series brings well-deserved attention to these companies and the nearly 5,000 manufacturers across the state whose hard work drives Connecticut’s economy and supports thousands of local families.”

The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating our state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,600 manufacturers account for 10.2% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. Advanced manufacturing alone pumps $19.4 billion into Connecticut’s economy.

“Connecticut has a deep and strong legacy in the manufacturing sector. It is a significant force that drives our economy, creates jobs and ensures the state’s and the nation’s position as an economic leader. I applaud Senator Murphy on his efforts to recognize Connecticut manufacturers and the importance of manufacturing to the state through the ‘Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer’,” said Elliot Ginsberg, president & CEO, Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology Inc.
