WASHINGTON – Today, after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Helping Angels Lead Our Startups (HALOS) Act, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) called on the U.S. Senate to immediately follow suit and pass his bipartisan HALOS bill into law. Murphy’s HALOS Act would support startups and create local jobs by removing burdensome restrictions for investors looking to support startups. Murphy’s bill is cosponsored by U.S. Senators John Thune (R-S.D.), Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), and Angus King (I-Maine), and was introduced in the House of Representatives by U.S. Congressmen Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) and Steve Chabot (R-Ohio).
“Right now, unnecessary restrictions are holding back our startups, making it difficult for them to innovate, grow and create jobs,” said Murphy. “I’ve heard from entrepreneurs all over Connecticut and the most important thing we can do is make it easier for investors to put capital behind them. It’s time for the Senate to follow the House’s actions today, and immediately vote on this bipartisan bill.”
Murphy has held a series of roundtable discussions with entrepreneurs and angel investors throughout Connecticut to get their feedback on the support they need from the federal government to help create startup jobs. The HALOS Act was developed with their feedback.
