Hartford – U.S. Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) today issued a joint statement praising President Obama’s decision to issue a federal disaster declaration, providing federal snow assistance in connection with the January blizzard.
“The President’s decision will rightfully provide substantial financial assistance to the state, as well as municipalities in New London, Windham and Tolland Counties, and the Mohegan and Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nations. Responding to the extraordinary January blizzard buried many of our municipalities in unanticipated, and in some cases unaffordable costs. After the storm, Connecticut continued to face record cold and unprecedented snowfalls, compounding challenges and stretching already thin budgets. We are disappointed that this declaration does not cover all impacted counties and will continue to advocate for expanded aid to New Haven County,” Murphy and Blumenthal said.
