(Hartford, CT) – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), and Congressman Jim Himes (D-4) today announced a $72,000 federal grant to the Town of Trumbull Emergency Management Services. The grant funds will be used to purchase two new cardiac monitors, which will provide the first responders and nearby hospitals with life-saving medical information regarding a patient’s condition.

The grant program is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.

“This grant enables Trumbull EMS to purchase state-of-the art technology to provide the most efficient and effective care. These cardiac monitors will allow first responders to immediately assess vital cardiac conditions and communicate this life-saving information to nearby hospitals. We will continue to advocate for additional federal resources to provide all Connecticut residents the best and most modern emergency medical care available,” stated Murphy, Blumenthal, and Himes.

“We are very excited to be awarded this grant. This equipment will be a tremendous asset to the residents we serve,” said Joseph Laucella, the Chief of EMS in Trumbull.

“Today’s announcement in regard to the Town of Trumbull Emergency Management Services being awarded a $72,000 in grant funding to purchase two cardiac monitors is great news for Trumbull residents,” stated First Selectman Timothy Herbst. “This new equipment will help aid our first responders and allow them to collect vital information on site regarding a person’s medical condition so they can be assisted on site, while communicating pertinent information to the area hospitals.”

The grant is the 10th firefighting grant awarded in Connecticut for Fiscal Year 2013. Stamford received $1.05 million to hire six additional firefighters through the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) and Assistance to Firefighters grant programs administered by FEMA. Norwalk, Orange, Waterbury, Stafford Ambulance Association Inc. and the town of East Hartford also received grants to support operations and safety measures.
