TORRINGTON, CT – Today, U.S. Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and U.S. Representative Elizabeth Esty (D-Conn.) announced that the Community Health & Wellness Center in Torrington received two grants totaling over $244,000 from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The Community Health & Wellness Center received $205,654 to expand facilities and $38,647 to support their HIV intervention program.

“I’m thrilled that the Department of Health and Human Services awarded these grants to Torrington's Community Health & Wellness Center. With this new funding, the center will now be able to provide primary care services to more people in the community, and expand its HIV treatment programs. I admire the center's commitment to care for all people, regardless of their income level, and this funding will help providers continue that great mission,” said Senator Murphy.

“I am incredibly proud to announce federal funding to support the Community Health & Wellness Center,” said Representative Esty. “Last March, I toured the facility in Torrington, and I witnessed the extraordinary level of care that the staff provides to their patients. I am confident that this additional funding will allow the center to continue to successfully deliver critical health care services in our community.”

“These two federal grants provide critical and necessary funding for the Community Health and Wellness Center’s primary care and HIV early intervention services -- programs that save lives and reduce health care costs. The Center provides unparalleled health care service and support to the Torrington community and I applaud the Department of Health and Human Services for this wise investment,” said Senator Blumenthal.

“The Community Health & Wellness Center is pleased to receive both the HIV Early Intervention grant and the Expanded Services grant. The HIV grant will enable us to provide early intervention services for people living with HIV, and the Expanded Services grant will provide funding to hire new provider and support staff to expand primary care access for individuals living in northwestern Connecticut,” said Kathy Grimaud, CEO of the Community Health and Wellness Center.

The Community Health & Wellness Center provides primary health care, women’s health care, HIV care, dental services, and behavioral health services for residents of Torrington and the northwest region of Connecticut. The center provides care regardless of the ability to pay.
