NEWTOWN, CT – Today, U.S. Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and U.S. Representative Elizabeth Esty (D-Conn.) announced that the Dodgingtown Volunteer Fire Company in Newtown received an Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) in the amount of $107,540 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This AFG grant will be for 13 breathing masks and spare air supply.

“We are proud to announce today’s grant to the Dodgingtown Volunteer Fire Company in Newtown,” said Murphy, Blumenthal, and Esty. “Day in and day out, these brave men and women put their lives on the line to keep us safe. We must do what we can to ensure that they have the equipment they need. These funds will help the Dodgingtown Volunteer Fire Company continue to do their life-saving jobs safely and effectively.”

The Dodgingtown Fire Department has been serving the Newtown community since 1909.

Since 2001, the Assistance to Firefighter Grant has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
