(Hartford, CT)—Today, U.S. Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and U.S. Representatives Rosa DeLauro (D-3) and Joe Courtney (D-2) announced $450,601 in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighter Grants (AFG) for fire departments in New London, North Haven, Shelton, and Somers.

“This federal funding will give fire departments in New London, North Haven, Shelton, and Somers brand new equipment and training resources,” said Blumenthal, Murphy, DeLauro, and Courtney. “Firefighters are constantly putting their lives on the line to save others and deserve the best equipment and resources possible to complete every mission safely and effectively. We will continue to support these critical federal programs that invest in our first responders.”

A funding breakdown is below:

  • New London–$ 251,799 for 3 protective gear washers/dryers and technical rescue training.
  • North Haven–$ 18,182 for a protective gear washer / dryer.
  • Shelton–$ 163,000 for source capture diesel fume exhaust systems for 4 fire stations.
  • Somers–$ 17,620 for a protective gear washer / dryer.
