Today, U.S. Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) announced that Sikorsky has secured a $1.24 billion contract to modify, test, and deliver six FAA-certified S-92 helicopters and two trainer simulators to the U.S. Marine Corps. This contract is the initial step to providing, by 2023, a VXX Presidential Helicopter Replacement fleet totaling 21 operational aircraft.
“We are pleased to announce that a new fleet of Presidential helicopters – an iconic symbol of American power – will continue to be made and maintained with pride in Connecticut. This decision by the Navy comes five years and $3.2 billion too late after first pursuing failed foreign alternatives, but we have no doubt that Sikorsky will deliver on time and on budget. Sikorsky’s distinctive white top helicopters have served the President faithfully as ‘Marine One’ for over fifty years and the new modified VH-92s will continue to do so for decades to come. Congratulations to all the men and women in Stratford who play a vital role in building these important helicopters.”
