WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, on Thursday made the following statement after 21 states filed a brief defending the Affordable Care Act as part of a Trump administration supported lawsuit before the Supreme Court to overturn the entire law:

“We cannot forget that during the middle of an unprecedented national health crisis, President Trump and his Republican friends are still supporting a lawsuit that would overturn the Affordable Care Act and take away health care from millions of Americans. As the president has failed to create any national response to COVID-19, the Affordable Care Act has been instrumental as states have been left to deal with this pandemic alone. We must keep fighting to make sure Republicans are not successful in gutting the current health care system, and work to ensure Americans, and especially those most at risk with pre-existing conditions, can access the health care they desperately depend on,” said Murphy.
