WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) on Thursday applauded U.S. Senate passage of his bipartisan American Innovation $1 Coin Act. U.S. Representative Jim Himes (CT-4) introduced the bill in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill would authorize the U.S. Mint to create commemorative $1 coins recognizing significant innovation or innovators from each of the 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. Just like the 50 State Quarters Program, the American Innovation $1 Coin Act would generate revenue for the U.S. Treasury and help reduce the national debt. Companies, like MBI Inc. in Norwalk, market these types of commemorative coins. The bill now awaits final passage by the U.S. House.
“Our country was built on innovation and entrepreneurship, and what better way to celebrate it than through a program that creates jobs and reduces the national debt. This bill supports local jobs at MBI Inc. in Norwalk, one of the top commemorative coin companies in the country. I’m proud to have worked with Congressman Himes to advance our bipartisan legislation, and I’ll be working with him to get it to President Trump’s desk as soon as possible,” said Murphy.
