WASHINGTON– U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) on Tuesday released the following statement after the Senate confirmed Steve Dettelbach as Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) nominee:

“For more than seven years, we’ve been missing a crucial player in the fight to keep communities safe from gun violence – a Senate-confirmed leader for the federal agency responsible for enforcing our gun laws. With President Biden’s chosen director in place, ATF can start taking proactive steps to address the gun violence epidemic by tracking down ghost guns, disrupting gun trafficking rings, and making sure the gun industry is following the law. I look forward to working with Director Dettelbach to keep guns out of the wrong hands and implement the newly-enacted Bipartisan Safer Communities Act,” said Murphy.

This week, Murphy released a statement following the White House event marking the passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. Last month, Murphy released a readout of his meeting with Dettelbach.
