WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) on Thursday applauded the passage of the Bipartisan Background Checks Act (H.R.8) in the U.S. House of Representatives. Earlier this month, Murphy introduced the Senate counterpart bill, the Background Check Expansion Act.
"Voters were crystal clear last November—they elected a Congress and president committed to universal background checks. Today, the House passed universal background checks with a bipartisan vote—and now the fight moves to the Senate. When it comes up for a vote here, every single one of my colleagues will have to decide whether they are on the side of the gun lobby or the more than 90% of Americans who want Congress to act and save lives. Our constituents will be watching closely," said Murphy.
