WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), chairman of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Affairs, released the following statement on the announcement that Connecticut is one of 16 states to set a new record for export sales in 2013:

Connecticut’s manufacturers are the best in the world and today’s announcement is a testament to their great work. We are strengthening America’s trade relationships and it’s clear that our focus on reaching consumers around the globe is paying off. The bottom line is that improved trade relationships mean more export sales, which means more manufacturing jobs in Connecticut. I’m working to pass a new trade agreement with Europe that tears down any remaining barriers to American exports and will allow Connecticut’s businesses to continue to grow.

Last year, U.S. exports reached $2.3 trillion in 2013, up nearly $700 billion since 2009. Connecticut reached $16.5 billion in export sales in 2013, making it a record breaking year for the state. To read more about this announcement, click here.
