WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) released the following statement after the Senate voted to confirm Loretta Lynch as the United States Attorney General, ending an historic 165-day delay in her confirmation.

“I was proud to vote today to finally confirm Loretta Lynch; the fact that it took this long is an embarrassment to the Senate. No one has questioned her ability to do the job of our nation’s top law enforcement official, and to do it well, and yet it’s been 166 days since President Obama nominated her for the post. Ms. Lynch has dedicated her entire career to public service and has proven time and time again – by taking on corrupt officials and terrorists and protecting the rights of Americans – that she has what it takes to be a fantastic Attorney General. I’m pleased that the Senate finally voted to confirm this historic nominee – as Democrats have been prepared to do since the day she was nominated – and I look forward to working with her.”
