WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced that he appointed Amina Lampkin, a junior at William H. Hall High School in West Hartford, as a U.S. Senate Page for the Fall 2015 Senate Page Program. As a Senate Page, Amina is one of just thirty high school juniors from across the country to be selected to help with the important day-to-day operations of the U.S. Senate.
“Amina is among Connecticut’s best and brightest high school students. She is an honor roll student at Hall and a young public servant who volunteers with her church and coaches aspiring dancers. She demonstrates true leadership among her community and I’m proud to welcome her to Washington, D.C.,” said Murphy. “The Senate Page Program is a rewarding opportunity for our nation’s future leaders to learn firsthand about public policy and to develop the skills they’ll need to improve our communities through service. I’m confident that Amina will thrive in this exciting environment.”
William H. Hall High School Principal Dan Zittoun said, “The entire Hall community is thrilled about Amina's selection to the Senate Page Program. She is such a wonderful young woman and this once in a lifetime experience will give her an incredible experience learning about how the government works, and also have an opportunity to interact with an incredible array of people. We wish her the best of luck and look forward to her sharing her experiences when she returns in the spring.”
Page responsibilities include delivery of correspondence and legislative materials within the Congressional complex, taking messages for members, preparing the Chamber for Senate sessions, and carrying bills and amendments to the desk. Pages are also required to attend classes each morning at the Page School beginning at 6:15am. The Senate Page Program is administrated by the Sergeant at Arms, the Secretary of the Senate, and the party secretaries.
