WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced today that in 2013 his office saved or recovered $1.2 million for constituents across Connecticut. Over the course of the year, Murphy and his casework staff assists individuals in all parts of the state with matters related to federal agencies, such as the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, the Social Security Administration, and the Department of Homeland Security. This work is focused on ensuring that his constituents’ rights are respected, that they receive the benefits they are owed, and that any procedural errors they encounter are corrected. For example, Murphy’s office has helped secure VA benefits for Connecticut veterans whose applications are stalled in the VA backlog.
In addition to providing assistance to constituents who get in touch either via email or by phone, Murphy’s office continues to offer “mobile office hours” in all parts of the state, allowing constituents who need assistance to meet with a member of the senator’s casework staff in person. This unique outreach technique provides constituents with an even more direct connection to the office, close to their residence.
“While Washington has been mired in maddening levels of partisan gridlock this year, helping people in Connecticut deal with federal agencies and get what they’re owed is the most rewarding work that a congressional office does,” said Murphy. “While contacting a Member of Congress to help navigate the federal government might not be the first thing that comes to mind, I hope people across the state who need help will reach out to my office. That’s what we’re here for.”
Connecticut residents can immediately request Murphy’s assistance through the casework section of his Senate website, or by calling Murphy’s Hartford office at 860-549-8463.
