HARTFORD – Today U.S. Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) applauded news that the F-35 has achieved Initial Operational Capability.

“Thanks to the hard work, dedication, and innovative ideas of Connecticut’s defense manufacturers, the Air Force’s F35 is ready to defend our nation,” said Murphy. “Congratulations to all of the men and women in Connecticut who made the F35 one of the most reliable aircraft in the world – this announcement is a testament to the bright future in store for them and Connecticut’s defense manufacturing industry.”

“The Air Force’s announcement that the F-35 is at initial operating capability and ready to begin combat missions marks an important milestone for the program and our state’s continued contribution to our country’s national defense. The F-35 is a fifth generation fighter jet, employing the best technologies available like the F-135 engine made by Pratt and Whitney,” Blumenthal said. “Supported by Connecticut’s skilled and talented defense manufacturing workforce, the F-35 program is bringing the Air Force into the future.”
