HARTFORD – The Connecticut Congressional Delegation announced today $2.6 million from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for the expansion and renovation of the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. The grant will fund the construction of roads, landscaping and infrastructure over three acres, and will accommodate respectful storage of 3,000 additional cinerary urns. The grant will enable the state to provide continued service to Connecticut’s 193,450 veterans and their families for decades to come.
The cemetery now consists of 23.57 acres and is able to accommodate over 16,000 graves, sufficient to meet the needs of veterans and their families through approximately 2032, before the planned expansion.
“The Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery is a lasting tribute to the service and sacrifice of our brave veterans. This substantial federal award provides the resources necessary to ensure that the cemetery has the capacity to appropriately and respectfully honor and recognize the heroic contributions of all Connecticut veterans for decades to come. We will continue to fight for the funding necessary to ensure that all veterans and their families receive the recognition and support they need and deserve both in life and death,” the Delegation said.
