WASHINGTON –Today, U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced that Veronica Ma and Charles Sosnick of New Canaan have been selected as delegates to the 53rd annual United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) – a week-long opportunity for selected high school students who are interested in pursuing careers in public service to learn about the U.S. Government, its processes, and leaders. Ma and Sosnick were chosen to join 102 other student delegates from across the country to attend this year’s USSYP in Washington, D.C. from March 7th through 14th.
“Veronica and Charles represent some of Connecticut’s most accomplished students and we’re so proud to be welcoming them to DC,” said the senators. “This trip will be a wonderful opportunity for them to learn firsthand about public policy and will give them the skills they need to improve our communities and nation through public service in the future. We hope they have a wonderful time exploring the city and wish them the best of luck!”
In Washington, the student delegates will attend meetings and briefings with senators, House representatives and Congressional staff, the President, a Justice of the Supreme Court, leaders of cabinet agencies, an Ambassador to the United States and senior members of the national media. The students will also tour many of the national monuments and several museums.
Transportation and all expenses for the week in Washington are provided by The Hearst Foundations. Additionally, The Hearst Foundations will provide each student with a $5,000 undergraduate college scholarship with encouragement to continue coursework in government, history and public affairs.
