U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2) announced today that the Department of Agriculture declared that in conjunction with Providence County, RI being named a disaster area due to the ongoing drought, farmers in neighboring Windham County, CT, are eligible to request emergency federal aid.
“This exceptionally dry summer has crippled local farming—endangering crops and requiring expensive, extensive irrigation and watering. This designation will bring welcome federal aid in the form of emergency loans to the Windham County farming community. Connecticut’s farming community is bedrock of our local economy— providing healthy food and good jobs across the state. We will continue to fight for aid for farmers across the state and encourage any farmer struggling with this year’s extreme weather to contact our offices for more information on available assistance,” Blumenthal, Murphy and Courtney said.
