WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) on Tuesday released the following statement blasting Senate Republicans for filibustering the For the People Act, comprehensive legislation to strengthen our democracy. The For the People Act would make it easier for all eligible Americans to vote; end the dominance of big, dark money in politics; and ensure that public officials work in the public interest—all reforms that the American people overwhelmingly support.

“All across the country, Republican legislatures are taking radical steps to deny people's access to vote, gerrymandering districts to extreme partisan advantage, and trying to cast doubt on the results of the 2020 election. Democracy is under assault, and while I'm disappointed that today not a single Republican voted to debate reforms to protect the right to vote, the fight is just beginning,” said Murphy.
