HARTFORD – U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) today applauded the U.S. Navy’s announcement that Groton-based Electric Boat has been selected as the prime contractor for its Ohio-class replacement submarine.
Murphy said: “Today’s announcement reaffirms Groton's unmatched contribution to America’s Armed Forces. The U.S. Navy continues to invest in Electric Boat for one reason: they're far and away the best company when it comes to advanced undersea warfare. This is great news for Connecticut and for the hardworking men and women at Electric Boat who work day in and day out to deliver the best submarines in the world. I've been lucky enough to job shadow Electric Boat employees for a day on the job, accompany the crew of the USS California back to New London from their most recent deployment, and spend a night on board the USS Hartford with the Groton-based crew in the Arctic. I’ve seen firsthand the incredible contributions that our submarine program and the thousands of workers it employs make to our state and to our national security, and I’m absolutely thrilled that Electric Boat was once again selected as the prime contractor for these new boats.”
“Today’s announcement by the Navy solidifies Groton’s position as the Submarine Capital of the World,” said Blumenthal, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. “The selection of Electric Boat as the prime contractor for the Ohio-class replacement means that, for years to come, the talented men and women of EB will maintain a heavy workload, keeping good-paying, high-skilled jobs right here in Connecticut. For decades, Electric Boat workers have distinguished themselves, producing submarines ahead of schedule and under budget – an unmatched track record of success that earned them prime contractor status. I applaud the men and women of EB, as well as the massive network of subcontractors across our state who contribute to our underseas warfare capabilities, on a job well done.”
