cLawmakers and neighbors alike have been pausing to reflect on the meaning of Memorial Day.

The 12th annual Connecticut Veterans Memorial Picnic is set to kick off Monday morning in Rocky Hill.

Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman said she'll be in attendance.

The picnic is set for 11:30 a.m. at the Rocky Hill State Veterans Home on West Street.

"Today, we remember the men and women who paid the ultimate price to defend our freedom. We commit to honor their memory, to care for their families, and to be worthy of their sacrifice," said Rep. Elizabeth Esty. "Let us not forget the special pain of those families whose loved ones are missing in action. They deserve closure and dignity as well."

"For generations, the people of Connecticut have selflessly answered the call of service and defended this great nation," said Sen. Chris Murphy. "On this Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our state and our country. It's a debt that can never fully be repaid. We also thank our military families - the husbands and wives, moms and dads, sons and daughters who have given up so much for our country."
