Connecticut’s U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy has been named to Time’s “100 Next” list, which “recognizes 100 rising stars from across industries and around the world.”

Time’s write-up on Murphy was written by Gabrielle Giffords, a former Arizona congresswoman, a gun safety advocate and herself a victim of gun violence.

In her short piece on Murphy, Giffords focused on the senator’s gun control advocacy, specifically following the massacre in Uvalde, Texas earlier this year.

“When schoolchildren were once again senselessly murdered — this time in Uvalde, Texas — he refused to listen to those who said progress wasn’t possible,” Gifford wrote of Murphy.

The federal Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which Giffords called “the first federal gun-safety law in nearly 30 years,” would not have been possible “without Murphy’s passion, persistence, and courage,” she wrote.

The list also includes actor Jonathan Majors, musicians Sza and Machine Gun Kelly, comedian Taylor Tomlinson and basketball player Ja Morant, among many others.

In a recent Quinnipiac Poll, Murphy had a 54 percent approval rating among people interviewed in Connecticut, ranking two percentage points behind Sen. Richard Blumenthal. A total of 89 percent of Democrats interviewed for the poll approved of the job Murphy has been doing, while only 19 percent of Republicans approved.
