WTNH - Tonight, local politicians and activists are also reacting to the Thousand Oaks, California mass shooting. They say something has to be done.
"When congress does effectively nothing shooting after shooting after shooting, it looks as if we are endorsing these terrible, deranged individuals who are carrying out these shootings", says Senator Chris Murphy.
"I don't understand why we don't do simple things like pass universal background checks or get these dangerous assault off the street. Gun violence in preventable when we know the signs and what we need to do to take action and intervene", said Nicole Hockley of Sandy Hook Promise.
She says we need education about recognizing the signs that someone should not have access to a weapon, and recognizing the signs that someone might hurt themselves.
