WASHINGTON (WTNH) – Several Connecticut fire departments are getting help from the federal government. Members of the Connecticut congressional delegation have announced grants to departments in West Haven, Naugatuck, Salem and Danbury.
Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro says the West Haven Fire Department will receive $314,404 and the Naugatuck Fire Department will receive $89,019. Congressman Joseph Courtney says the Salem Fire Department will receive $12,048. Representative Elizabeth Esty, along with Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy say Danbury’s fire department will get $336,728.
The grants are part of the Federal Assistance to Firefighters Program under the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The program established in 2001 has helped firefighters and first responders purchase equipment they need to protect the public.
