HARTFORD - Connecticut's senators campaigned for gun reform in the state's capital and in the nation's capital Monday.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal held an event in Hartford, accusing President Donald Trump of pandering to the NRA while backing a state ban of bump stocks.
In Washington, D.C., Sen. Chris Murphy appeared on the steps of the U.S. Capitol with students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where a mass school shooting occurred back in February.
Both made clear messages for lawmakers nationwide.
"What we're asking for -- universal background checks, restrictions on dangerous assault weapons -- they're supported by a cross-section of Americans that don't understand why this place isn't listening," said Murphy.
"Now is the time to seize this moment in Congress and our state legislature, even as Donald Trump panders to the NRA and encourages them to think all gun violence prevention measures would be defeated," said Blumenthal.
Murphy added that more people in their 20s are standing up and saying they will vote lawmakers out of office who don't vote for gun reform.
